Already a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with an established background in engineering and art, John A. Moore, Jr. decided to take on the challenge of dental school. It was widely understood by his peers and professors that he would rise straight to the top of his field.
In dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, his senior task was to work on 12 dental crowns and dental bridges. Dr. Moore completed 65. His record remains unbroken to this day. And his passion for dentistry lives on in the patients he’s helped feel better and more confident over the last three-plus decades at Cosmetic Dental Associates.
John Moore, DDS started as a research assistant and teaching assistant at the University of Colorado and University of Texas. He moved on to become a Clinical Instructor and Assistant Professor of Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. There he taught dental anatomy, restorative dentistry, and clinical dentistry for 10 years (1978-1989). In addition to teaching, he has lectured both nationally and internationally (at UTHSC, TDA meetings, and the Mexican Academy of Prosthodontics).
Dr. Moore has been voted into America’s Top Dentists in Cosmetic Dentistry. He has also received the DENTSPLY International Merit Award and has been recognized for outstanding achievement by the Southwest Society of Prosthodontists, the University of Texas Health Science Center, and the Mexican Academy of Prosthodontics.
In addition to being recognized as one of the very few Invisalign Elite Providers nationally, he received the Outstanding Case Presentation Award for his contribution to the prestigious 2009 international Invisalign Ortho Summit.

Despite the awards and acknowledgment, Dr. Moore’s greatest accomplishments are patient smiles.
Through the years, Dr. Moore has written and illustrated numerous published articles. In addition, he has created many educational recordings for use in training dentists at the University of Texas dental school. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the San Antonio District Dental Society, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society, and the Clinical Foundation of Orthopedics and Orthodontics. He is also an honorary member of the Mexican Academy of Prosthodontists.
In his work with San Antonio orthodontics, Dr. Moore has developed a groundbreaking method of combining Invisalign invisible braces and porcelain veneers in a system to correct major jaw and tooth alignment problems. He has successfully applied this method to treat patients who otherwise would have required years of metal braces and surgery to cut their jaws apart and realign them. Dr. Moore is always seeking to make the patient experience nothing short of excellent.
Beyond his achievements in dentistry, Dr. Moore and his wife, Carol, are active humanitarians who have received recognition from the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, the National Humane Education Society, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare, to name just a few organizations. Dr. Moore has also been a contributing member of Healthy Smiles for Texans, donating over $21,000 in dental care to underprivileged people in San Antonio since 2001.
