There are a number of technological advancements that get made year to year in dentistry, and some of the revolutionary ones have really brought some neat things to dentistry. One of them is this CEREC machine, which carves out of a block of solid porcelain a porcelain or a permanent restoration like a crown or a veneer or even a bridge now. You can scan into a computer the damaged area on the patient and have this computer lay down on a digital format what this tooth is going to look like or how you're going to restore this area and then begin the process of guiding a mill to carve out an exact replica of the missing part of the tooth.

That was super revolutionary because we can get the crown done now in an hour. Also the X-ray technology nowadays is fantastic. We don't have to run back to the dark room and dip the film in the tank and wait until it comes clear and then rinse it off and then put it on the dryer, and 30 minutes later we finally have the set ready and two of them have to be shot over because we weren't sure what we were going to need until we got all the way there 30 minutes later. So that kind of time-consuming, slow process really got in the way of being able to take care of our patients that don't have time to sit around all day doing this kind of stuff.

So now we can diagnose better. We can diagnose quicker. There's no delays. It's less expensive. It's a great improvement to dentistry. The digital age has brought a lot of computer things that were not possible before. The whole thing of Invisalign is all done with millions of dollars' worth of computers and computer technology and software and everything like that. So this idea of having computers guide us and organize for us and sort things for us and save things for us and fetch things for us, all that's just come together in the modern office now. And it's really beneficial.
