There are a number of gum related issues that happen in cosmetic dentistry. The most common of which is this gummy smile. When you have a gummy smile, that's on someone that smiles and they show too much gum above their teeth. And so, what we can do in a lot of cases without having to do full-blown jaw surgery and things like that is trim the gum line up higher and then place a veneer that's up higher on the tooth. Then make some of the gum disappear on that smile and brings that edge, which is usually part of the problem, too, of the tooth, the front teeth, up higher so that it sits framed and the smile line is straight. We have some pictures of this online, and I think you can take a look at it if you might like to see. That's one of our more common ones, but I see a new and upcoming one that turned out really nice, and that is to take heavily pigmented gum and bleach it out or handle it in a way that causes that dark splotches or dark patches of pigment in the skin, in the gum tissue to disappear so that when you look at the gum, it's all even and pinkish so it takes on a more natural look to it. We have some neat examples of that, too.
Recognize A Gummy Smile

It can also make your teeth appear smaller than they are, which has led some people to getting teased.
