Here at Cosmetic Dental Associates, we do all different types of porcelain work. We do the full porcelain crown, the porcelain veneer, the prepless porcelain veneer, and the permanent whitening – they’re all made of porcelain. Having an array of different types of porcelain pieces that we can use allows us to design each restoration to be the most ideal restoration for each tooth and each person and each given condition. Sometimes a few of the teeth may need veneers, some may need super-thin prepless veneers, and some may need crowns. Making them all at the same time out of all the same material keeps them all looking exactly balanced in color, shape, form, and proportions. We do regular veneers, we do the porcelain crown. A regular veneer is what you’ll find in most offices. That veneer is where you trim a layer off the front of the tooth so that you’ll have room to put a layer of porcelain back onto the tooth to restore its color or its shape or whatever. The prepless veneer is the same thing only much thinner, so you don’t have to trim so much off the front of the tooth. Then the permanent whitening will be where you don’t trim any and you just put a super-thin coating on the tooth.Â
You have this array of different uses of the porcelain, the porcelain veneer of which is probably our most common restoration, where the person has a crooked tooth and then the rest are straight, or a couple with fillings in it, and you do need to trim the plastic fillings off and maybe take the crooked tooth and straighten it out. Now you’ve trimmed the teeth back, now you can put the veneers on there and put that layer of real pretty, smooth, straight, white finished porcelain on there. That’s your classic veneer.
